Through this browser interface you can follow a 3-dimensional version (using Macromedia Shockwave) of five of the "wayfromhome" maps as drawn by refugees from Iraq, Iran and The Democratic Republic of Congo with a short audio track edited from their narration of the walk. THE CONTEXT OF THE MAPS The maps are presented as they were hand-drawn in the moment of remembering, with the readjustments and realignments that are inevitable in the negotiation between the memory, the present and the page. Without any editing or touch-up, the forms of the original maps have been given a 3-dimensionality to accentuate the two layers and two places. The landmarks of the place called home are presented as objects hovering above the flat plane of Plymouth. When you roll the computer mouse over a landmark on the map, a photographic image of a Plymouth landmark pops up at the bottom of the screen with text re-naming it or intertwining it with the remembered landmark of the mapmaker's home.
